Abundant Mass Of Threads , cottons And Sponge is Removed From 3 year Old Boy's Intestine : Doctors Done Great Job
Unique Surgery at Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad
A three year old male patient, Prince Kanubhai Borana, residing at Odhav, Ahmedabad, presented to the Pediatric Surgery Department at Civil Hospital in emergency with complaints of vomiting, abdominal distension and not passing stool since last five days.
He was investigated with ultrasound and C.T.Scan of abdomen which were suggestive on bowel within bowel causing intestinal obstruction. Emergency surgery was done on 30-12-2015 by Pediatric Surgeons Dr.Rakesh Joshi and Dr.Jaishri Ramji.
On opening the abdomen, it was found that there were two perforations in the small intestine from which cotton threads were visible. Further, balls of cotton thread were felt throughout the intestine. These were milked out and removed with the help of a light source used to identify the places where the thread balls were present. Separate incisions in the intestine and stomach were made to remove all the thread balls and even 12-15 pieces of sponge. An endoscope was used to check the stomach through the incision and it was also found to be full of thread balls and sponge pieces. All the thread balls and sponge were removed and intestines were completely cleared. Part of the intestine was removed and anastomosis done, the incisions over intestine and stomach closed. The operation lasted for over 5 hours.
At present, the child’s condition is still critical, but gradually recovering.
